Midsummer 2012

Retro is very fashionable at the moment in my opinion. So I decided to try it out. Here are Picks of Midsummer 2012. For those who have never been to Finland it is a REALLY big party here second only to Christmas.

Lets go through some of the Finnish midsummer traditions.

Gourmet food and drink
preferably cooked by a nearly naked cheff
Food for eyes is important as well

set the table dont forget drinks

Invite friends and family, bon apetit and salut
Then we drink some more and go to sauna... no i dont have pictures of that as this is not that kind of blog. When scrubbed clean it is customary to gather to watch bonfire with some drinks.
Our bonfire was by a lake. Most of the time the bonfire is build near water... wonder why
 Gourgeos even in the begining
These two are related as you might guess
Us luv birds, nearly married
 Boys will be boys
and somitimes they need to be spanked
a happy family
sheep dont have anything to do with midsummer but as we were in the countryside and i thought that they looked cute i took a picture.

Drinks, friends and camera= lots of niiicee pictures
After bonfire the night was still young and we headed to the local dance hall.
At this point the light was less and i was less sober so I only have a few pictures where you can actually tell what I was trying to take the photo at.

So the night grew old and we headed back to our summer homes.
THE NEXT DAY, one just requperates from the night before and we did that by playing some darts. Very professionally watch out Jocky Wilson (i googled famous dart players, aparently Jocky is good at darts)
Styles varied but everyone played
Well everybody exept the dog, she was just wondering what the heck are we doing
 Fashionable as ever

And this was our midsummer 2012.

HOPIAN WAPPU

We have rented a summer place this year. Its in the countryside and I mean truly in the boonies where there are no shops only cows and crop. The house is really old and authentic retro with no running water or inside loo. The garden is large and rundown but the house is right by a river and the sauna about a hundred years old.

On labourday we stayed there for the first time and for those who are not familiar with the meaning of labourday, Wappu as we call it,it means eating and dressing up and lots of drinking.
These pics show you how it went.

WAPPU IN HOPIA
WITH THE FOLLOWING CAST

THE LADY OF THE HOUSE
THE MASTER OF THE HOUSE
PRETTY LADY FROM NEXT DOOR
AND HER HANDSOME HUBBY
 THE GRAND DAME
AND LAST BUT NOT LEAST THE HOUND
 FIRS WE PREPARED A FIEST
AND THEN ENJOYED THE FRUITS OF OUR LABOUR
THE GIRLS HAD SOME FUN

ITS NOT EASY BEING PRETTY

THERE WERE FRIENDS
 AND THERE WERE LOVERS

AND WE WERE ALL DRUNK AT THE END OF THE NIGHT

I HATE ICE HOCKEY

Im one of those ice hockey widows. My finace follows hockey, my dad came here to follow hockey, my neighbours (on  both sides) follow hockey, their sons follow hockey... what can i say, there is 3 months in a year when there is no hockey. As I can not avoid hockey so I have to find ways to tolerate or even enjoy it. SO I took pictures... as usual. and here they are.
